Phylogeography of Caribbean pines
Four species of Pinus subsection Australes occur in the Caribbean Basin, and Jardón-Barbolla et al. analyse their phylogeny to assess possible colonization events from Central America. They find that independent colonizations gave rise to the plastid lineages of P. caribaea var. bahamensis and of P. caribaea var. caribaea. The expansion time for bahamanian populations roughly corresponds to the beginning of the last glacial period.
