On this day in 1992, the first ever photo was uploaded at CERN. The image was of Les Horribles Cernettes, a do-wop band. It's a major cultural step as, up to this point the World Wide Web had been a tool purely for physics geeks, whereas after, well it was still a tool for physics geeks, but something had changed. The impact might not have been visible, but it was like the first flakes of snow setting off an avalanche. Without generosity of Tim Berners Lee giving away the World Wide Web for free, and people like Les Horribles Cernettes taking the first steps on the web, sites like this would never have happened, so this week's Sudoku Garden seems an appropriate time to say "thank you".
