Phylogeny and biogeography of subgenus Ceratotropis
The subgenus Ceratotropis in the genus Vigna is widely distributed from the Himalayan highlands to South, South-East and East Asia. Javadi et al. determine a molecular phylogeny of Ceratotropis and show that major clades correspond to the geographic distribution of species, which diverged during the late-Pliocene–Pleistocene. The results imply that the characters used in the current classification of the subgenus are not diagnostic of monophyly.
