What should a busy botanist do in the summer holidays? Perhaps rest if he’s been teaching a lot during term-time, maybe catch up on that overdue manuscript, or go travelling and getting some culture. Well, by way of combining plants, history, culture, museums and old manuscripts I’m tempted to visit the Carrot Museum, which looks like it will satisfy all of my carrot-based needs. What’s more, it seems to be a virtual museum so I can stay at home where I recognise the food, can speak the language, and understand the currency. How good is that!
However, mindful that my more monocotophilic colleagues will probably not endorse my dicot choice, I’m happy to share with them knowledge of the existence of an onion museum in the USA–Georgia to be more exact. And – for good measure – I even have information about the spring onion museum (but that’s yer lot…) in Taiwan, which sounds so charming it brings tears to your eyes. Aaah, sorted: vacation planned for busy botanists!
